GMO CORNStudies Show Animals Harmed By GMO Food

Three GMO Myths

Myth 1) GMO Plants increase yield and farmer profit.
Truth 1) USDA and independent studies show an average reduction in yield and no improved bottom line for farmers.

Myth 2) GMOs are needed to feed the world and eliminate world hunger.
Truth 2) Experts now flatly reject GMOs as the answer to world hunger.

Myth 3) GMO Foods are safe.
Truth 3) Two recent government studies from Austria and Italy published just last month, demonstrate GMOs to be unsafe.

The above 3 myths are from Jeff Smith's recent newsletter.

Italian GMO Study - Allergy and Inflammation

Lab Mice fed GMO Corn"On November 13th, a study by the Italian National Institute of Research on Food and Nutrition showed how GM corn caused significant immune system changes in mice, related to allergic and inflammatory responses.

The corn, sold by Monsanto, contains a gene that produces the toxic "Bt" pesticide in every cell--and in every bite. The results raise the question whether this toxin (or some other unpredictable change in the GM corn) might be contributing to the rise in allergies or other immune disorders in North America." quoted from Jeff Smith Huffington Post
Austrian GMO Study - Decreasing Fertility

"The Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety commissioned one of the very few long-term feeding studies on GM corn, released last week. The University of Veterinary Medicine in Vienna fed GM Monsanto's GM corn to mice, which were then mated. In the third and fourth litters, there was a reduction in the number and size of rat pups (statistically significant). Similarly, in mice fed GM corn for four successive generations (from original mice parents to their great grandchildren), the size and number of offspring was less than those compared to non-GM fed mice (trend only, not yet statistically significant)."Quoted from Jeff Smith Huffington Post
Other GMO studies have shown toxic and allergic reactions in humans, sick, sterile, and dead livestock, and damage to virtually every organ studied in lab animals. GMOs are unsafe.

FDA Internal Memos Released - GMO Warnings Ignored

FDA Corrupted by Corporate GreedIn 1999, 44,000 pages of internal FDA memos and reports were made public due to a lawsuit.  These hidden documents showed how FDA Food Scientists warned of unintended negative effects of genetic engineering.  These warnings were deleted from the GMO policy statements in spite of the scientists’ protests.

Will Genetically Modified Foods Make You Sick? Jeffrey Smith Posted November 20, 2008 in Huffington Post

First study:

On November 13th, a study by the Italian National Institute of Research on Food and Nutrition showed how GM corn caused significant immune system changes in mice, related to allergic and inflammatory responses. The corn, sold by Monsanto, contains a gene that produces the toxic "Bt" pesticide in every cell--and in every bite. The results raise the question whether this toxin (or some other unpredictable change in the GM corn) might be contributing to the rise in allergies or other immune disorders in North America.

Second Study:

The second study provokes the equally compelling question, are GM foods the missing link to decreasing fertility? The Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety commissioned one of the very few long-term feeding studies on GM corn, released last week. The University of Veterinary Medicine in Vienna fed GM Monsanto's GM corn to mice, which were then mated. In the third and fourth litters, there was a reduction in the number and size of rat pups (statistically significant). Similarly, in mice fed GM corn for four successive generations (from original mice parents to their great grandchildren), the size and number of offspring was less than those compared to non-GM fed mice (trend only, not yet statistically significant).

Intestinal and Peripheral Immune Response to MON810 Maize Ingestion in Weaning and Old Mice, by Alberto Finamore, Marianna Roselli, Serena Britti, Giovanni Monastra, Roberto Ambra, Aida Turrini and Elena Mengheri*Istituto Nazionale di Ricerca per gli Alimenti e la Nutrizione, Via Ardeatina 546, 00178 Roma, Italy J. Agric. Food Chem., Article ASAP November 14, 2008

This study evaluated the gut and peripheral immune response to genetically modified (GM) maize in mice in vulnerable conditions. Weaning and old mice were fed a diet containing MON810 or its parental control maize or a pellet diet containing a GM-free maize for 30 and 90 days. The immunophenotype of intestinal intraepithelial, spleen, and blood lymphocytes of control maize fed mice was similar to that of pellet fed mice. As compared to control maize, MON810 maize induced alterations in the percentage of T and B cells and of CD4+, CD8+, γδT, and αβT subpopulations of weaning and old mice fed for 30 or 90 days, respectively, at the gut and peripheral sites. An increase of serum IL-6, IL-13, IL-12p70, and MIP-1β after MON810 feeding was also found. These results suggest the importance of the gut and peripheral immune response to GM crop ingestion as well as the age of the consumer in the GMO safety evaluation.
